Japan!

Greetings from Japan,

After months of anticipation, I'm finally here -- and John is in Petoskey, Michigan.  We both left on Tuesday, May 28 -- he flew east and I flew west, just a bit further.  Singapore Air was a great airline -- seemed like they were always serving food (2 dinners + a snack meal), snacks or (free) beverages or bringing hot towels or seeing if we needed anything the whole time. Free movies at each seat -- so plenty to help the time pass.  Only problem for me were the crying babies -- no sleep for me!  Another interesting fact -- I left LA mid-afternoon and arrived 11 1/2 hours later in Tokyo at 7:15 pm the next evening -- and it was never dark outside!  I'm now 16 hours ahead of you.

My very pregnant daughter and Chris met me at the airport -- what joy!   They were great guides -- getting us from airport onto the right trains to get to Yokosuka.  Some of it quite confusing to me, so it was wonderful to have them there.

I've explored the navy base on my own on the shuttle bus, and have walked around Yokosuka a bit and practiced buying some things with yen money.   I was a little surprised that there weren't more street or store signs in English -- made me realize Linda and I are going to have quite a challenge getting around on our own when we do our independent 13-day tour!

I was able to go with Kristen and Chris for a medical appointment where they strapped monitors on Kristen to check baby's heart beat and movement. Looks like baby is in no hurry to leave her comfortable womb space, so we're in "waiting mode."
So off we go to do some exploring in the area this weekend.
Thanks for all your well-wishes.
